Baudkin

£5.00

Baudkin is a chilled, textured hat perfect for a one-off skein of pretty, handdyed DK yarn — or those two balls of double-knitting you have in your stash.

The hat is knitted in the round, and the pattern has both charts and written instructions.

The name ‘Baudkin’ means a richly embroidered cloth or rich brocade in the Old Scots language, and the stitch pattern is inspired by the fine brocade textiles on display in Scottish museums. I like the idea of taking something meant for nobility or kings and re-using the stitch pattern in an everyday context. We all deserve something fine and beautiful in our wardrobe.

The yarn used is a rustic, yet soft yarn which lends a sweet halo to the finished hat. If substituting, aim for a yarn that lets the texture pop and avoid colourways that with dense colour variegation.

Please make a gauge swatch before starting the pattern, so a good fit is ensured
